A captain hired by the narco mafia to safely bring tons of cocaine hidden in semi-submergible almost undetectable embarkations from Colombia’s mangrove swamps on the pacific coast to Mexico. The journey can take between nine and twelve days. The crew is composed of a captain a mechanic and the heavily armed representative of the narco traffickers that comes as an insurance for the cocaine load. With semisubmersibles able to transport as much as 8 tons of cocaine its construction value of around 1 million dollars is dwarfed by the actual cocaine street values of 300 million dollars.

The region of Bahia Màlaga is recognized for its high biological diversity of flora and fauna as well as for the beauty of its landscape. It is a weekend destination for people from the city of Cali that come here to watch whales between July and November or fish or simply relax. It is also home to the Bahia Malaga Colombin Navy in charge of patrooling the 1300km of pacific coast from where much of the cocaine that is destined for the United States is moved northwarth on “Go Fast” boats semi submergibles and recently also real submarines.

This submarine made by Narco- traffickers in the mangrove swamps of the Colombian pacific was found by the Navy Infantry the 12th of February near Timbuiqui fully loaded with food provision and diesel. It has a length of 29.4 meters a diameter of 2.5 meters and a forestay of 6.2 meters. Entirely made of fibre glass with a thickness of 3 cm, equipped with GPS and electronic charts HF and VHF radios two cameras on the periscope one for day and one for night vision to monitor the sea surface while submerged. The submarine has a 346 HP Yamaha engine that reaches 2600 rpm, it has two electrical air compressors an electricity generator attached to the propulsion engine and one diesel run generator as auxiliary plant. Its build for four crew members and has autonomy of about 900 miles with and an ability to transport 8 tons of cocaine.

Breaking the ocean surface, they jump, twist, arch their bodies, slap their tails, raise their heads, and then disappear again below the water. Of the 13 existing great whale species, the humpback (Megaptera novaeangliae) is the most acrobatic. Often coming close to land, their acrobatics ? performed with agility even though they measure up to 18 metres long and weigh up to 45 tonnes  are enjoyed by thousands of people around the world each year. Humpbacks are also one of the world’s best singers: not even the most operatic nightingale can compete with the complexity or length of their song. Humpbacks are found the world over. In the southern hemisphere summer they can be found in Antarctic waters, their feeding grounds where they principally eat fish and small crustaceans such as krill. When autumn arrives, the whales start their long journey north to the tropical Pacific, where mating and birthing take place. The humpbacks that migrate to Colombia have the longest journey of all, some 8000 kilometers, and are the only population to cross the Equator during their migration. From July to November every year, around 1200 individuals, representing about 10 per cent of the world’s humpbacks, make the warm tropical waters of the Colombian Pacific coast their home. Here they partake in courting rituals, give birth, and care for the newborn calves. In November, they begin the 8000km journey back to the Antarctic, where they feed until the next year’s trip north.

Semi-submergible have been one of the most successful ways of carrying cocaine from Colombia to Mexico? due to their undetectability trough radar. This one was captured in the operation Odin II? in march 2006 it has a length of 20meters a girth of 3,5, 2 Cummins 250HP engines a velocity of 15 Knots and the capacity to load 6 tons. Here a Colombian navy sailor inside the semi submergible.

On the pacific coast it is in back-waters like these hidden below the jungle canopy or in the mangrove forests that the narco traffickers hide their laboratory to process coca base into cocaine and where they construct their almost undetectable semi-submergible ships.
